Series: Amazing Singers, Amazing Songs
Active, acrobatic, clinging to small limbs and twigs, hanging upside down from tender branches to leaves, hustle bustle hopping tiny cute Chikadee is a little singer, a song bird.
It's amazing how methodically this tiny creature sings as a trained singer. When I started working for my series "Amazing Singers, Amazing Songs", I was thinking whom should I sketch first? This little one with sweet voice stood first in front of my eyes...jumping...praising…thanking, glorifying the name of their creator...singing…"Oh Lord I lift your name on high".
Chickadee is named after its familiar call "Chick-a-dee-dee", a complex song used to communicate threats from predators and to coordinate movement amongst the group.
Their call is a throaty chick-a-dee-dee-dee, while their song is a 3- or 4-note descending whistle fee-bee-bay or fee-bee-fee-bee. Number of "dee" syllables at the end of the call increases with the level of danger the predator poses.
Chickadee is a social bird, a permanent resident of cooler climate. Chickadee of different regions are identified by their unique songs. God takes care of them, he has given them wisdom to protect themselves and survive in the harsh cold condition of Northern hemisphere. On cold winter nights, these birds reduce their body temperatures by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius to conserve energy (Ref. Wiki.).
Little Mountain Chickadee in my sketch is very similar to a Black-capped Chickadee, only distinctive feature is the white feather lines above eyes.
