My Pencil Drawings of Birds

Birds of Paradise
Birds are my favorite things to draw. Where I live in the Caribbean there is an abundance of birds of all types, sizes shapes and colors to draw.
Here we get "birders" from all over the world because of the variety of species including the beautiful and bizarre Palmchat. This palm tree dwelling bird is the songbird of Hispaniola! The endemic parakeet you can see in most parts of the Caribbean but its nearby cousin is threatened with extinction - the DayGlo Parrot. I have managed several watercolor recordings of this fabulous bird.
There is a "bird island" called Isle de los Pajaros which is a nesting haven for pelicans and many other species of seabirds. A few other birds are threatened like the Ridgway Hawk which is only found here on this island.
If you want to come here you must have a passion for birds. This island is only accessed by a half-day boat trip.
One of the finest places for birding in the Caribbean is the very rugged Sierra de Baoruco which consists of about 300 square miles so you have to be fit to get in a day's photo-shoot or to fill up your sketchbook.
It is best to take a digital camera as well as your sketch book to record all this very colorful bird life.
