Drawing Pencil Sketches
Newsletter October 2011

Hello Fellow Artists, Sketchers and Doodlers,

Some of you have written to me about not receiving The Beginners Guide to Drawing when you have subscribed to my monthly newsletters. My apologies as sometimes there are glitches in cyberspace in this not-always-perfect-world. If you have not received a copy do please contact me from any page and I will forward it on to you in PDF format.

For those of you who do no know about this guide, it is all about a step-by-step tutorial to learn the basic steps on drawing, sketching and a little doodling. This covers such things as:

  • What it takes to be a good artist
  • Advantages and Disadvantages of Pencil Drawing
  • Materials and Tools: Choosing the Right Kind and Quality
  • How to Hold the Pencil: The Different Pencil Grips
  • How To Draw Lines, some useful exercises here
  • An Introduction on Perspectives (Linear and Zero Point Perspective)
  • The Elements of Light, Shadows, and Shading
  • Different Shading Techniques (Tones and Values)
  • Finishing Touches (Erasing and Dusting)

There are also guidelines on mixed media applications, How color pencils can bring wonders in your black and white world using watercolor and oil pencils. And finally there are details on how to use a pen and ink; this is a great medium to use when you've mastered it.

Keep Up To Date With RSS Feeds

You will notice this past month I have added another ten pages to Drawing Pencil Sketches and most of them are for the guys and gals who are just starting out on their drawing career. If you really do not want to miss any of these, please go to my RSS feedson any page and you will be kept up to date. Just click on the orange RSS button which is on all the pages in the left column.

Feedback on what YOU Like

Please do let me have feedback on what you like to read or images you like to see in this newsletter. There is always plenty of news on what is going on in the art world. Much of this is localized in the big cities with exhibition openings, emerging artists rising to the top of the pile, and really creative art from unknown artists and students.
