There are plenty of free online drawing lessons which were not available before the internet. You have a wide choice
Some of them are very good after several weeks of study.
Some of these are quite good with the webmaster being a real artistic pro where you can learn a lot.
It is easy enough to search online for lessons on drawing where you'll find an abundance but look for "Reviews" where you can get a students' feedback which is usually truthful or you could check the testimonials.

There is one I've recommended on this site as I've done an evaluation from student's feedback and their drawings.
Also a good place to look is on YouTube where you can see real pros demonstrating how to draw in simple steps. They usually have a link back to their sites either in the tags or below the clip. Besides YouTube, there are other "How-To" video sites like Vimeo, Metacafe, Veoh and Ustream, plus many others.
When watching "How-To" videos on drawing, you have the advantage of stopping it anywhere, you can playback or rewind it, so it is a good place to start. You can learn a lot this way in a short space of time.
Always check the feedback rating especially if you purchase a video clip or drawing DVD on Amazon, some of these are quite good and reasonably cheap, certainly cheaper than buying a $200 course online.
No doubt you will nearly always get a great course if you are willing to pay for it and it does save you much time in searching.
If you go to some of the social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, you will soon find out which is the best and the worst, there are no holds barred on these sites when evaluating sites on drawing.
